New Horizon RP102 Raised Pilothouse Completes Tank Test

2013-06-05

Horizon is pleased to announce the new RP102 raised pilothouse recently completed her final tank test, and her low-resistance hull exhibited 25% more efficiency than a conventional planing hull at the same speed.

The RP102 raised pilothouse hull is the result of a year-long process, in which Horizon designed 36 different hull shapes and evaluated each one, using a combination of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and scaled model tests, to narrow it down to the best hull form.  This hull form was then outfitted with exterior styling and features and put through the final tank test phase to become the brand new RP102 model.

Horizon works regularly with the Ship and Ocean Industries R&D Center (SOIC), the National Taiwan University (NTU) and the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in the research and development of low resistance hulls, and the RP102 raised pilothouse is another successful collaboration with these respected research centers.
